Walking alongside you on your journey
I'm Megan, and I’m your guide. I help you work through traumatic experiences by working with what is presenting in your body using my specialized training in trauma and attachment. There can be a lot of fear connected with working through these emotions, and I’m here to help every step of the way.
An Emerge Therapy Services client said it best:
“You're like the GPS in the car. You know how you tell it where you want to go and it gives you three different routes? They’ll all get you there, but you have to choose which route is best for you. You help me get to the end destination by helping me choose which route is best for me and helping me along the way.”
I am the facilitator for clients moving through their own journey towards better outcomes for their lives, and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
I help clients get unstuck from patterns and move past trauma with Somatic Experiencing therapy. When unresolved trauma is holding you back and leaving you frustrated by symptoms such as chronic headaches or body sensations, it’s time to connect back to your bodily awareness and find healing in your physical body. The best gift I can give you is the opportunity to experience growth and “newness” that is empowering.
In a Somatic Experiencing session, we’ll deal with what is presenting in your body at the moment. There is no prescription. Instead, your body will communicate what it is ready to work on and we’ll address difficult emotions and sensations as they arise. In essence, we will rebuild the foundational elements of your wellbeing and guide you to release traumatic incidents from the emotional and physical body.
“I’ve been a somatic experiencing client of Megan’s for nearly three years and have benefitted enormously from her skill and compassion. She has helped me process trauma and learn to regulate my nervous system. What I appreciate most about Megan is her skill set. I’ve found that the combination of occupational therapy and somatic experiencing has not only helped me to heal trauma through body work but has given me practical strategies to navigate heightened nervous system activation. Approaching my healing work pragmatically has helped me to develop a set of tools I can apply when life gets difficult and has empowered me to extend care to myself. Her approach is warm and accessible, and I would recommend her to anyone.” - JB
I started my career in massage therapy, and I’ve been practicing as an Occupational Therapist for the last 16 years. When I worked at the Children’s Hospital I noticed the effects of medical trauma for clients and their families. I grew interested in helping to heal trauma and pursued my training in Somatic Experiencing™. As a therapist, I enjoy witnessing shifts in my clients’ experiences when we have breakthroughs in sessions and hearing about their victories in their day to day lives. The koru is a nod to my roots in NZ and my values as a therapist, which is why I’ve included it within Emerge Therapy Services. In Maori cultures, the koru represents new life and the ways that life both changes and stays the same. For me, it represents the experience of therapy as an unfurling and emerging of new growth.
When I’m not working with clients, I love sitting around with people with good sense of humour and laughing. Finding fun through music and dance with my family helps me with work-life balance!
“I think Megan is brilliant and naturally well-suited to the career field she is in. Her professional, yet warm heartedness and authenticity created an environment to feel safe and ready to explore in. With her knowledge, wisdom, intuition, and compassion, nothing escaped her keen, well trained eye.” - SB
